In short: Petanque Academy only collects the data needed to reply to you, to sell to you and to give you access to the programme, and to measure visits to the site if you agree. Your data is never sold. You can access it, correct it or have it deleted at any time.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Jean-François Meyrieux, sole trader (entrepreneur individuel) trading as Petanque Academy, 56 rue Martin Luther King, 44240 La Chapelle-sur-Erdre.
For any questions about your data, or to exercise your rights: petanqueacademy@gmail.com, or by post to the address above.
What data, why, and for how long
Each use of your data rests on a legal basis provided for by the GDPR: the performance of a contract, your consent, a legal obligation or the legitimate interest of Petanque Academy.
Orders and student account
| Data | Why | Legal basis | How long | Recipients |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| First name, last name, email, billing address, phone number, products purchased, progress through the lessons | Processing the order, giving you access to the programme, tracking your progress, sending you emails about your order | Performance of the contract | For as long as you have access to the programme, then for 3 years after your last login or order | Petanque Academy, Hostinger (hosting) |
| Invoices and accounting records | Meeting accounting obligations | Legal obligation | 10 years | Petanque Academy, the tax authorities on request |
Emails to customers
If you buy a programme, Petanque Academy may email you Jean-François’s tips and offers related to the programme (new videos, live streams, coaching courses, new modules). Legal basis: Petanque Academy’s legitimate interest in informing its customers about services similar to those they have bought (Article L34-5 of the Code des postes et des communications électroniques, the French Postal and Electronic Communications Code). You can opt out when you place your order, by ticking “I’d rather not receive them”, and then at any time, using the unsubscribe link in each email or by writing to petanqueacademy@gmail.com. Your choice is kept with the order. Retention: until you unsubscribe, and no more than 3 years after your last order or your last contact with Petanque Academy.
Payment
Payment is made directly through Stripe (card) or PayPal. Petanque Academy never sees or stores your card numbers. Stripe and PayPal process your payment data as data controllers, under their own policies, in particular for fraud prevention. Legal basis: performance of the contract.
Contact, quote and coaching course registration forms
| Data | Why | Legal basis | How long | Recipients |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| First name, last name, email, phone number, message | Replying to your request, preparing a quote, organising a coaching course | Pre-contractual steps taken at your request, or legitimate interest in replying to you | 3 years after the last contact | Petanque Academy, Google (Gmail, the email service used for the site’s emails) |
Free lessons
When you request the 2 free lessons from the training programme, your email address is used to send you the link to the lessons and then, as stated below the form, Jean-François’s tips by email. Legal basis: your informed consent, given at the time of the request. You can unsubscribe at any time, from any email (by replying STOP or using the unsubscribe link), or by writing to petanqueacademy@gmail.com. Retention: until you unsubscribe, and no more than 3 years after your last contact with Petanque Academy. If an email sending tool is introduced, it will be added to the list of recipients below.
Analytics (with your consent)
If you accept analytics in the cookie banner, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity measure visits to the site and how it is used: pages viewed, where visits come from, clicks, scrolling, anonymous recording of your path through the pages. WooCommerce also records where a visit that leads to an order comes from (search engine, social network, article). This is used solely to improve the site. Form fields are masked in Clarity recordings. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the “Manage cookies” link at the bottom of every page. The cookies last no more than 13 months; the data is kept for no more than 14 months in Google Analytics and no more than 13 months in Clarity (30 days for recordings). Full details are in the cookie policy.
Site security
To protect the site and its forms against spam and attacks, some technical data is processed: IP address, browser, behaviour on the page. It is analysed by reCAPTCHA (Google) on the forms, by the Wordfence security plugin and through the logs of the web host, Hostinger. Legal basis: legitimate interest in keeping the site secure. How long: no more than 12 months for the logs.
Videos
The lesson videos are hosted by Vimeo, in “do not track” mode: Vimeo sets no tracking cookies. YouTube videos only load when you click on them; from that click onwards, YouTube (Google) may set its own cookies, under its privacy policy.

Your data is never sold or rented out. It is shared only with the service providers needed to run the site, who act on behalf of Petanque Academy or as controllers for their own service:

|---|---|---|
| Hostinger International Ltd | Hosting the site and its database | Servers in the European Union |

Some providers may process data in the United States. These transfers are governed by the Data Privacy Framework, the framework adopted by the European Commission in 2023 for certified US companies, or, failing that, by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

You have the following rights over your data:
- access: to find out what data is held and obtain a copy;
