Shilton petanque clothing is the range of embroidered polo shirts, shirts and T-shirts that the French brand devotes to our sport, following its partnership with the Masters de Pétanque. When it comes to playing, the polo is the centrepiece: the short-sleeved Masters model for summer, and the Game polo or the white one, both long-sleeved, when the weather turns cooler. All three are allowed under the FFPJP’s 2026 administrative and sporting rules (in French), which accept polo shirts with short or long sleeves. This guide, part of our petanque equipment topic, compares the models, sizes and care, and tells you where to find the Masters cap, which Shilton does not sell.
Shilton petanque: the brand that kits out the Masters
Shilton petanque is the brand’s clothing line for our sport. Shilton was founded in 1993 in the Béziers area by Michaël Guedj, according to the brand’s history page (in French). Its link with petanque goes back to 2014: that year, according to Sport Stratégies (in French), Shilton teamed up with the Masters de Pétanque and launched a dedicated collection.

9sizes, from S to 6XL
21items in the petanque collection
Shilton made its name in “sport chic” menswear, opening its first shop in Saint-Jean-de-Luz in 1997, according to the same page. The brand still has strong ties with rugby: its sports partners include Montpellier Hérault Rugby and Castres Olympique, alongside the Masters.
The 2014 partnership was signed for three years by Quarterback, the agency that organised the Masters at the time, according to Sport Stratégies. Twelve years on, Shilton still lists the Masters de Pétanque among its partners, and several of its models bear the Masters name.
What is in Shilton’s petanque collection?
Shilton’s petanque collection had 21 items on 14 October 2026, counting each colour separately: mostly polo shirts, plus two shirt models and a T-shirt. Like the rest of the brand, which says on its history page that it dresses men “from S to 6XL”, it is aimed first and foremost at men, with up to 9 sizes depending on the model.
Shilton highlights its Egyptian cotton, which it calls its first choice for its clothing; however, the product pages we read for the petanque polo shirts list 95% cotton and 5% Lycra. The collection is clothing only: for your playing equipment, see our guide to choosing petanque boules.
Which Shilton polo should you choose for playing petanque?
According to Shilton’s petanque shop, checked on 14 October 2026, three polo shirts make up most of the range: the short-sleeved Masters Petanque polo (€75), the long-sleeved Petanque Game polo (€79) and the white Masters de Pétanque polo, also long-sleeved (€55.30 instead of €79). The season you play in guides your first choice; style does the rest.
| Polo | Colours | Sizes | Price checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Masters Petanque polo (2026 collection), short sleeves | Beige, blue, sky blue, red, khaki | S to 6XL | €75 |
| Petanque Game polo, long sleeves | Red, green, khaki, camel, beige, sky blue, blue | M to 6XL | €79 |
| White Masters de Pétanque polo, long sleeves | White (blue, white and red collar) | S to 6XL | €79, on sale at €55.30 |
These prices were checked on the brand’s online shop on 14 October 2026: they change with the sales and new collections. Two other polo shirts complete the range: the grey Masters Trophy polo and the “pieds tanqués” polo, covered further down with the shirt and the T-shirt.
The Masters Petanque polo, for summer competitions
The Masters Petanque polo is the collection’s new model for 2026: short sleeves, the word “Pétanque” embroidered tone on tone in fine script and “Shilton Sportswear Company” underneath, according to the brand’s shop and photos. Its short sleeves make it the polo for hot days, when a competition stretches from morning to evening in the sun. We haven’t checked what it is made of: look at its product page before buying if cotton matters to you.

The Petanque Game polo, with long sleeves
The Petanque Game polo has “Shilton Pétanque” embroidered on the chest, white piping at the cuffs and at the base of the collar, and a straight cut, according to its product page on the Shilton website. Made of 95% cotton and 5% Lycra, according to the same page, it covers your arms for spring and autumn competitions, or for cool mornings. It does not come in S: players with a slim build will look to the other two models.

The white Masters de Pétanque polo, embroidered on the back
The white Masters de Pétanque polo stands out for its double embroidery, over the heart and on the back, and for its blue, white and red collar, according to its product page on the Shilton website. The same page lists it as 95% cotton and 5% Lycra, with a straight cut, and it was 30% off on 14 October 2026. White is the hardest colour to keep clean on a dusty terrain: plan to wash it after every day’s play.

In our programme’s module on nutrition, Jean-François points out that playing conditions change from one competition to the next, from intense heat to bitter cold. When it comes to kit too, the right polo is first and foremost the one that suits the season:
- Summer competitions The Masters Petanque polo, the only one of the three with short sleeves.
- Spring and autumn The Game polo or the white polo, both long-sleeved.
- Masters style The white polo and its large badge embroidered on the back.
- Slim build The Masters polo or the white polo, both available from S.
The Masters de Pétanque jersey: can you wear the champions’ kit?
The Masters jersey, in practice an embroidered polo, has never been just for the players: as early as 2014, the “Masters de Pétanque by Shilton” line was meant to let the public wear the same products as the champions, according to Sport Stratégies. In October 2026, the Shilton shop is still selling three polo shirts that bear the Masters name.
One thing to bear in mind if you are looking for a particular player’s exact jersey: we have not been able to check which models the Masters teams are wearing this season, and polo shirts printed with a player’s name, like those in the photo below, are not in the brand’s shop. The polo shirts on sale capture the spirit of the kit worn on the terrain, with the “Shilton Pétanque Sport Tradition” badge that you can also see on the players’ backs.

The Masters runs throughout the summer, according to Sport Stratégies, and the official Masters de Pétanque website (in French) has details of the circuit. On our YouTube channel, which had 31,000 subscribers on 14 October 2026, we published clips from the Cluses and Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie stages in 2023, and we also broadcast games, which you can find among our live streams. If the shooters’ technique fascinates you, our guide to precision shooting in petanque explains the event that tests their accuracy.
The Masters de Pétanque cap: where can you buy one?
The official Masters cap is white and one-size, with an embroidered “Masters de Pétanque – Since 1999” badge, according to its product page on the official Masters shop. The shop sells it, but is closed for the 2026 season and has announced it will reopen in 2027. The Masters de Pétanque cap is not sold by Shilton: on 14 October 2026, the caps section of the Shilton website offered only one cap, the “Casquette french company”, at €39, with no mention of petanque at all.
The official cap’s product page showed no price on 14 October 2026. The official Masters shop presents “the official clothing, accessories and equipment of the 2026 Masters de Pétanque tour”, and in June 2026 the Masters’ Facebook page mentioned caps and bucket hats in the shop. The shop closed at the end of the season: the Masters’ social media will be the first to announce its reopening, according to the shop itself, and in the meantime the official website of the Masters circuit remains the place to start.
As far as the rules are concerned, no particular cap is required: Annex VII of the FFPJP rules does not mention caps and simply extends the requirement for correct dress to “any accessory”.
A Shilton cap for playing?
You can still play in a Shilton cap, but it would have to be the “Casquette french company”, a white, one-size model with no link to petanque, according to the brand’s caps section. For a cap with petanque branding while you wait for the 2027 reopening, boule manufacturers also sell their own: MS Pétanque, for example, was selling them on its website when we checked on 14 October 2026.
As Jean-François, our petanque coach reminds players in our programme, a cap is part of a player’s basic equipment, just like sunglasses.
Is Shilton kit allowed in competitions?
Yes, a Shilton polo is fine for competitions: Annex VII of the FFPJP’s 2026 administrative and sporting rules lists polo shirts, with or without a collar and with short or long sleeves, among the tops allowed at the French championships, and nothing in that text rules them out for other competitions. The same regulations require correct dress and enclosed shoes, and they ban vest tops.
| Situation | Shilton polo | Shilton shirt |
|---|---|---|
| Friendly game | Yes | Yes |
| Official competition | Yes | Neither listed nor banned |
| French championships and Coupe de France | Yes, with club or committee identification | No, not on the list |
| Matching tops required | Same model, same colour | Not listed |
These rules only apply in competition: Annex VII does not cover friendly games. At the French championships, in the CNC (the national club championships) and in the Coupe de France, the same annex requires shorts or sports tracksuit bottoms, and a top identifying the club, the department or the region.
The Shilton logo on your polo does not count as advertising under the rules, which do not treat the manufacturer’s brand or logo as such; the colours of your clothing are up to you, too. If your team wants to play in Shilton in a competition where tops must match, choose the same model in the same colour: the rules then allow polo shirts, jumpers or jackets alike, as long as the colour and design are identical.
Under Annex VII, the umpire checks players’ dress and, if anything is amiss, informs the competition jury, which can go as far as disqualifying the team. When it comes to shoes, only the umpire can judge whether they comply.
Enclosed shoes, with a low heel
Shoes that are enclosed on top, at the front and at the back are compulsory under the FFPJP rules, which ban slippers and flip-flops; the FIPJP rules of play (in French) require them “for safety reasons”, with the toes and heels protected. In the Shooting module of our programme, Jean-François adds a tip on balance: shoes with a low heel, so that you are not thrown forward as you release the boule.
The rest of the rules, from licences to cards, are covered in our guide to the rules of petanque and throughout our rules and umpiring topic.
Kit that meets the rules is one of the basics to sort out before your first competition. The “Fundamentals” module of our training programme opens with equipment and basic rules, then moves on to choosing your boules and the grip, on video and at your own pace.
The Shilton petanque shirt and T-shirt: when should you wear them?
The collection’s shirt and T-shirt complement the polo shirts: according to the brand’s shop on 14 October 2026, the Masters shirt and the Petanque Trophy shirt, in navy or white, were on sale at €55.30 instead of €79, and the grey Petanque Masters T-shirt at €24.50 instead of €35. The shirt suits playing for fun, while the T-shirt also works in competition.
The shirt is not among the tops Annex VII lists for the French championships: keep it for friendly games, outings and competitions where the organiser allows it. The T-shirt, on the other hand, is listed; Shilton’s is short-sleeved and comes in S to 6XL, according to the brand’s shop.
Two discounted polo shirts complete this part of the range, according to the same shop: the grey Masters Trophy polo, at €52.50 instead of €75, and the “pieds tanqués” polo, in black or grey, at €48.30 instead of €69 – a nod to the Provençal expression, meaning “feet planted”, from which petanque gets its name.

Sizes, fabric and care for Shilton petanque clothing
Take your usual size for the clothes in the collection, Shilton advises on the product page of the white Masters de Pétanque polo, where the 1.77 m model wears a size M. The Game and white polo shirts, in 95% cotton and 5% Lycra, can be machine washed at up to 40°C and must never go in the tumble dryer, according to their product pages.
Which size should you choose?
The sizes available vary from model to model, according to Shilton’s shop on 14 October 2026:
- Masters Petanque polo From S to 6XL.
- Petanque Game polo From M to 6XL.
- White Masters de Pétanque polo From S to 6XL.
- Masters and Petanque Trophy shirts From S to 5XL.
- Petanque Masters T-shirt From S to 6XL.
If in doubt, Shilton’s size guide gives measurements in centimetres, and the brand’s customer service team can help by phone or email. For playing, allow a little room across the shoulders: a polo that is too tight restricts the swing of your arm, whereas a straight cut lets you throw freely.

Fabric and care
The 5% Lycra listed on the product pages gives the cotton a little stretch. The product pages for the Game and white polo shirts give the same care instructions:
- machine wash at up to 40°C, inside out, with similar colours;
- do not tumble dry;
- iron on a hot setting, at 150°C, inside out for the white polo and its embroidery.
Where can you buy Shilton kit and Masters clothing?
The main place to buy Shilton petanque kit is the full petanque collection on the Shilton website, which brings together polo shirts, shirts and T-shirts; items from the brand also appeared on Amazon when we searched on 14 October 2026. Official Masters clothing, caps included, is another matter: it is sold by the circuit’s official shop, which has announced it will reopen in 2027.
According to Shilton’s product pages, parcels are usually dispatched within 24 hours of payment and arrive in 2 to 4 working days by Colissimo. Returns are possible within 30 days of delivery, according to the same pages: they are free for an exchange or a credit note, with a €4.99 charge for a refund. The minimum spend for free delivery, however, differed from one box to another on the same page: check it in your basket.
Petanque Academy was a Shilton partner in 2024; we earn nothing from this link. This guide is based on the brand’s pages, the FFPJP rules and the official Masters websites, checked on 14 October 2026.
Key points for getting kitted out
If you’re choosing Shilton petanque kit, remember three key points: short sleeves for summer, long sleeves when the weather turns cooler, and the same model for the whole team when tops must match. The Masters cap will have to wait until the official Masters shop reopens in 2027. Fine kit won’t shoot a carreau for you: the throw, pointing, shooting and the mental game all take work, and that is what our training programme offers you, at your own pace, as do our tips for improving your petanque. We look forward to seeing you again for more of our wonderful game!
This programme is not sports instruction within the meaning of the French Sports Code. It is informal educational support, designed to enrich your personal practice of petanque, with no individual supervision and no qualification awarded.
